Scouting Report: Carl Marshall

Brian Stinnette
January 10, 2003

Senior guard Carl Marshall is one of five Class of 2003 Division I college basketball prospects on the Chicago Crane roster. Here is a quick look at Marshalls’ game on the court.

Marshall ranks among the best shooters in the Chicago Public League. The 5’10 lefty has a deadly stroke, and shoots with range out beyond the three-point arc. His ability to shoot from long range keeps opposing defenses honest, and opens things up inside for teammates Lorenzo Thompson and Florentino Valencia.

Marshall is a good ballhandler, but needs to show more point guard instincts to be a factor as a Division I college basketball player. Right now, Marshall is more of combination guard than a true point. Teams typically try to make Marshall go to his right in an effort to slow him down.

If Crane is to make a serious run in the state tournament, Marshall will be a big part of that effort. His shooting ability balances out the Crane attack on offense.

Marshall is drawing interest from a number of Division I college basketball programs. Look for Marshall to sign with a mid-major program this spring.
