Southern Illinois head coach Matt Painter has accepted the Associate Head Coach position at Purdue. After next year, Painter will become Purdue’s head coach when Gene Keady retires.

In his only season as head coach at Southern Illinois, Painter led the Salukis to a record of 25-5, and the regular season Missouri Valley Conference championship. Keady wanted a former Purdue player, or an assistant to take the job. Painter played for Purdue from 1989-1993.
