A strong season has the stock of Hillcrest’s Maurice “Lil Reese” Acker on the rise. Acker teams with Jerel McNeal to form one of the top backcourt duo’s in the state, and has clearly established himself as one of the best “pure” point guards in the state.

Acker, a 5-8 junior, is the definition of a pure point guard. He packs a strong handle, and is an excellent penetrator with superb passing skills and instincts. He is the master of driving the lane and dishing to open teammates.

During the offseason, Acker placed an emphasis on getting stronger, and increasing the range on his jumper. The results have been clear. For the season, Acker is averaging better 18 points and 6 assists per contest. The added strength has allowed Acker to be even more of menace on defense, and an even stronger finisher.

Acker is drawing lots of collegiate attention. Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, Wyoming and Oregon are all giving Acker lots of attention. Some high majors are also keeping a close eye on his progress. This summer, Acker’s stock could again soar when he leads Meanstreets, last year’s 16-U AAU National Champion on the summer circuit.
