Trent Meacham Verbally Commits To Dayton

September 4, 2003

After visiting both Purdue and Baylor last week, Champaign Centennial’s Trent Meacham has given a verbal commitment to play basketball next year for Brian Gregory’s Dayton Flyers. Meacham elevated his stock as much as any player in the state with a strong summer of play on the AAU circuit.

Meacham, a 6-1 point guard, was outstanding this summer playing for Iowa-based Martin Brothers. Meacham was instrumental in leading Martin Brothers to a National Runner-up finish at AAU Nationals. He also was MVP of the Nike Memorial Day Classic which was won by Martin Brothers.

Meacham will join a Dayton class that already includes 6-6 swingman Jimmie Binnie, a Martin Brothers teammate of Meacham, and 6-2 combination guard Brian Roberts. Dayton recruited Meacham to run the point with Roberts playing the shooting guard slot.

Both Purdue of the Big 10, and Baylor of the Big 12 made strong bids for Meacham’s services. However, Dayton won out after making a very strong impression when they had Meacham on campus two weeks ago.
