Northwestern picked up a huge transfer when former Providence Catholic star Michael Thompson opted to enroll at the Big 10 school. In December, Thompson, a former McDonald’s All American, announced that he would be leaving the Duke basketball program.

Thompson, who is 6-10, will provide Northwestern with a solid interior post prescence. Thompson will also bring the added bonus of adding yet another Illinois player to the Northwestern roster. The Wildcats 2004 recruiting class includes 6-5 guard Sterling Williams of Chicago Whitney Young, and 6-1 guard Brandon Lee of Peoria Central.

Having a roster fortified with Illinois players should help the Wildcats continue to bring in players from talent-rich Illinois.
