New Southern Illinois head coach Chris Lowery has signed his first recruit. Former Belleville East star Mike Dale has committed to play for the Salukis.

According to the Evansville Courier PressDale, a 6-6 swingman, paid his own way to Southern Illinois as a college freshman because he did not meet the academic requirements set forth by the NCAA to get a scholarship as a freshman. Now Dale, will receive a full athletic scholarship, and will be eligible to play for the Salukis next year.

Dale will join a 6-6 power forward Matt Shaw from Centralia on the Saluki roster next year. Shaw, one of the top Class of 2004 prospects in the state of Illinois, is expected to make an immediate contribution to the Southern Illinois attack.
