Shaun Pruitt Gives Illinois It’s First Class of 2004 Verbal Commitment

September 16, 2003

Shaun Pruitt of West Aurora has become the first Class of 2004 prospect to give Bruce Weber, and the University of Illinois a verbal commitment. Pruitt, the #1 post prospect in the state of Illinois, opted for Illinois over Big 10 rival Michigan State.

Pruitt, who stands 6-9, is big, strong and versatile. On Saturday, Pruitt told Chicago Hoops that he is spending a lot of time in the weight room, and is continuing to hone his skills on the basketball court.

Illinois still has one scholarship left to offer for the Class of 2004. They are continuing to battle Duke, North Carolina and Arizona for Peoria Central point guard Shaun Livingston.

Pruitt currently sits as the highest ranked Illinois Class of 2004 prospect to make a college commitment. Limestone’s DeAaron Williams (Wisconsin), Jacobs Eric Vierneisel (California), Champaign Centennial’s Trent Meacham (Dayton) and Belleville West’s Xavier Price (Purdue) are all Top 10 prospects that have made verbal commitments.
